My New Baby Has Arrived!

Sewing has always been a big part of my life.  I learned from my Mom, who learned from her Mom.   My grandmother was so good at sewing, she would go "downtown" and look in all the store windows at the latest fashions, come home and, without a pattern, re-create those fashions.

My Mom sewed many, many outfits for my sister and I, she sewed a lot of her own clothes, she sewed wedding dresses and coats, and she sewed all her own outfits when she and my father began square-dancing.  One year for Christmas she even made my sister and I a whole box of clothes for Barbie and Ken.

I learned so much from my Mom that I remember taking sewing classes in middle school and telling the teacher a thing or two about how to sew!   I sewed clothes for myself, lots of baby clothes and outfits for all my children, and even made a few things for my grand-daughter.

The last time I bought a sewing machine was 1978.   It was the first thing my then-husband and I purchased "on credit".  We bought it at the Singer Sewing Machine Store after much deliberation.   That machine lasted me 32 years.   Last year, it kicked the bucket, and it was determined that it wasn't worth the money it would cost to fix it.

Hubby offered me a new sewing machine for my birthday in June, and we decided we'd put it off until after we moved and were set up in the new house.    I'm still working in putting together my sewing room, but an opportunity presented itself that I just couldn't pass up.    My friend Joan posted on her blog "Quilting on a Budget"  a fantastic offer from Amazon for a sewing machine.  The original price was $449 - and it was $152, plus another $15 rebate - and no shipping!

My baby came today and I am amazed at what it can do.   It can make all these stitches!

It came with lots of extra accesories, including quilting foot and extra-large area in case you have a lot of fabric.

The challenge will be that this machine is computerized, including automatic threading.  I'm going to have to spend some time reading the manual before I can even thread the thing!   But what a fun way for me relax.  Thanks, Hubby for the great birthday gift!

It looks GREAT! And don't be scared by the "computer" part -- they really all work basically the same. You'll be surprised how quickly you pick it up.

I love that Tag wants a shirt. Probably THE most difficult thing to make! LOL

Have fun with it. Keep me posted! Can't wait to see photos of your creations!
