Mandatory Day Off

I "had" to take a day off this week.   It was one of those "use it or lose it" situations.   I had one vacation day left to use before mid-September.   Hubby graciously took a day off with me and we headed to Boston.

The main reason we went is because they were doing a vinyl record exhibit at the Institute for Contemporary Art, and we used that as a springboard to spend the day in the city.

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this "Post Office".   What a great way to recycle an ice cream truck!  They were selling stamps and whatever out of this truck.

The Institute for Contemporary Art was right on the Harbor.  The view was gorgeous.

Too bad I thought the exhibit was stupid.   I thought it was going to be record covers and interesting tidbits about different recording artists, etc.  Yea....not so much!   It was really just "artwork" (and I use that term loosely) that people had created with records.   The first thing we saw when we went in there was a stack of records almost to the ceiling, with broken records all around the base.   This was a sculpture.  (???)

The one thing they had that I enjoyed was some turntables and records that you could just listen to.  I had forgotten how encompassing it could be to put on a pair of headphones and block out the world while you listened.

This is me listening to Carole King's "You've Got a Friend".

After the ICA, we headed over to the Boston Common.  School mustn't have started yet in Boston, because the playground was packed.

We really enjoy going to the famous Frog Pond.   These little guys are the guardians of the pond.

The fountain in the middle created some beautiful rainbows.  It was fun to see kids enjoying the water.

And some bigger kids enjoying as well!

From the Common we walked over to the Public Gardens.    This is Romeo and Juliet.

It always fascinates me to see such beautiful gardens amidst the skyscrapers.

This is Hubby's dream............

From the Public Gardens we walked all the way to the Prudential Center, which is the home of the Cheesecake Factory!!   Mmmmmmmm!

And finally, we walked over to the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade and saw a free concert.   It was the music of Tchaikovsky from The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.   The Boston Ballet had some dancers there performing while the orchestra played.

All in all, a very nice day!

It's nice to see that you got out and enjoyed your "use it or loose it" day! The photos are great..I've been to Boston once and loved it (I was on business so I didn't get to see as much as I would have liked)
