Black Cohosh is my new Best Friend

It's that time of life...you know....the time when hot flashes rule my world.   I've heard talk of them;  I've seen them; and now I've gotten to experience them for myself.

I started having them about 2 years ago.  They lasted about 4 months and then they stopped.  "Gee," I said to myself, "that wasn't so bad.  What's all the fuss about?"   Unfortunately, I angered the menopause gods, and I've been bestowed with them again - only worse.

It's bad enough that I sat at work constantly complaining about  how hot it was.  Several times I had to go outside the building to keep from possibly passing out.   But then I started waking up with them at night.  The blankets were on...off...on...off.  The window was opened...closed...opened...closed.  I'm not a great sleeper anyways, so waking up 5 or 6 times a night with hot flashes just wasn't doing it for me.

I turned to the internet for answers.  And Black Cohosh came to light.  It's an herb.  But I'm no stranger to taking herbs.  After years and years of doing child care, I was constantly sick.  I heard about the properties of echinacea, which boosts your immune system.  I started taking it then, and I haven't stopped.  Neither do I often get colds now. (or bronchitis, sinusitis, strep throat, etc).  So I had no problem giving the Black Cohosh a try.

And it's worked wonders.  I've been taking it for two weeks, and the hot flashes have diminished from 10-15 a day to maybe 1 or 2.  I've gone through three nights now with none at all.

Now maybe it's a coincidence.  Maybe the Hot Flash gods are playing with me, and my natural hormones are going up or down or whichever way they go.  Maybe the hot flashes would have diminished right now anyway.  Maybe it's just mind over matter.   But I'm not taking any chances.  I'm going to finish up the bottle of Black Cohosh I am taking now, and then I'm going out to buy a truckload more.

For your sake, I hope the black cohosh is working. I am going to have to remember the name, as I'm bound to face hot flashes at some point too.

I remember my doctor suggesting Black Cohash if I needed it, but weird thing - I did not experience so much as ONE hot flash, no night sweats, nothing. My husband would debate my saying I experienced no mood swings either. LOL But you do have my sympathies!
