Food on the Cruise

I think Tag's favorite part of the cruise was being able to eat as much soft-serve ice cream as he wanted!  There was a self-serve ice cream machine near the pool and we took full advantage of it!  After a while, it became a little contest to see who could create the tallest cone!

We ate most of our breakfasts and lunches in the Oceanview Cafe.  This was a buffet open to everyone that had absolutely everything you can think of and more!  I wish I'd gotten a better picture to show you the scope of the place.  There must have been about 20 stations with all kinds of food.  For breakfast, yogurts and fruit and pancakes and made-to-order eggs, bacon, home fries, English Breakfast food, Spanish food, etc.   For lunch - I can't even begin to name everything they had but each day I got the biggest, most delicious salad bar.

There were several different dining rooms on board, with different focuses.  A steak house, an Italian place, etc.  There was a grill up at the roof garden, and there was a grill near the pool that served hamburgers and hotdogs and fries.

Our Aqua Class room entitled us to eat in the "Blu" restaurant.   We had to dress up, and we got the same waiter, Movin, and assistant waiter, Lanie, every night. I was quite enchanted with Lanie, as she had a beautiful lilting voice and loved to make us happy.   "Time for Dessert!" she'd sing!   She quickly knew our preferences and pointed out the newest chocolate dessert every night.   One night when I said I was too full for dessert, she insisted on bringing me some mint ice cream.  I think she would have been sad if I refused dessert!

We had absolutely delicious, fancy meals every night.  An appetizer, then entree and dessert.  We had everything from roasted duck to filet mignon to lobster tails, always with delicious sauces and vegetables.  They also brought us 4 different kinds of bread with accompanying sides to dip them in.

This was listed on the menu as a "Crabmeat Martini"!

One night we went to a specialty restaurant called "Le Petit Chef and Friends".   This was an amazing audio-visual display put on right on the table between each course.  Very hard to explain!  Basically, the plate was on the table, and surrounding the plate the people would come out and prepare your meal.  They'd throw ingredients onto the plate until the meal was done - then the real waitress would come out and place the food on the table - and it exactly matched what the little people had made!

There was a little story that went along with each course.   And the little family went from the couple meeting, to them getting married, having children, the children grew up and moved away.....and at the dessert course the grandchildren came back for Christmas!

What you see here on the table is digital and moving.

In addition, our cabin steward, Begus, left us some canapes each afternoon, so when we went to our room to dress for dinner we wouldn't die of starvation before we made it to the dining hall!  And the buffet was open until 1am....in case you were famished after watching the evening entertainment.   We indulged a couple of nights in some pastries, which we brought back to our room to eat whilst sitting on our balcony.

We tried to eat responsibly....we really did!!!  LOL

Tomorrow I'll tell you about the amazing entertainment.
